APPENDIX:

What can I recommend for the improvement of the fieldtrip and seminar program? My advices to those who will take their fieldtrip and seminar program in the near future.

As a concerned student, I have my recommendation for the improvement of the fieldtrip and seminar program. The first thing is that give enough time in visiting and staying in the chosen companies. Also consider the fact that Manila is the preeminent busiest roads nationwide, so it is good thing to make gather ahead of time to avoid delays.

My advices to those who will take their fieldtrip and seminar program in the near future, is that student should remind their parents in advance to avoid delays. Explain to them that the fieldtrip and seminar is a subject and it is needed to require. Ask them earlier if they are willing to spend and support enough money for the expenses. A night before the flight, make sure that you double check your things you bring. Take along only those important things such as dress and personal necessities. Be reminded that baggage is limited 15 kilos in weight. Make sure that you have extra kilos in weight for the pasalubong.

Students who are enrolling to the said subject will not be dependable only to those officers negotiating facts and expenses. You also have the responsibility. If the deadlines of payments are settle you have to work it and approach your parent in advance. When the field trip is finally come, students are responsible enough to discipline their self in waking up and should be time conscious in every instance to avoid delay. A disobedient single student may ruin the whole trip. Spend your money wisely, this will also matter. Don’t buy your “pasalubong” in Malls, but spend it in Divisoria. You can surely save your money. To the next officers in charge, you have to execute your assigned task and complete those tasks enough to the time required to avoid delayed information. When meeting is settle don’t be late! You should be the good model to your classmates. When the field trip is finally come, officers are in charged to observed and monitor different scenarios to avoid conflicts.

Fieldtrip Overview

Excitement! Enthusiasm! That’s how I felt when I first knew about Field Trip and Seminar as our subject. The Institute of Computing holds the said subject for the first time. Company visit is the major activity for the Information Technology and for the Computer Science students. This will alleviate the skills and the proficiency of the student to engage and expose to industry of technology.

The first moved we did for the activity is the meeting with teacher and choosing between Models A, B, and C afterwards. Almost student choose to settle in Model C even though it has few trips but it has much expensive than the two Models.

Time is fast approaching! After we resolved and patched up things, finally the October 4 comes up! Students are divided into three buses. We visit lots of company related to technology. Visiting different companies at the first place is definitely full of excitement. New persons to faced, new learning’s absorbed and new adventure to experienced. That was so great! Speakers impart the knowledge and the facts w are able to relate. We gain new learning’s that we will surely apply those things in reality sooner. Tagaytay really amazed us! Photo shoots are out of controlled! Even though long trip is risky to think of, Tagaytag relives all the stresses and anxiety we had. Next spot which made our trip unusual is the Enchanted Kingdom. Unfortunately we are not been able to take all the rides since all are for free, because the availability is not definitely good. Numerous students toke their trips along with us. We spent an hour of falling lines just to ride the incredible “space shuttle”. It’s really taking our breath away! The nervous, anxiety and unease are presently had in our self.

Manila is a place perfectly matched the once and a life time field trip and seminar of IC. How I wish to visit again the places we used to stop and stay with the unlimited budget to spend of.

Fifth Day-October 8, 2010

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, I went on a company visit to

MMDA Traffic Engineering located in Mandaluyong. MMDA is the last company we visited during the tour. It is a company for the monitoring and watching the high ways in some areas in the metropolitan. Employees don’t have supposedly rest day during holidays. Operations can quickly detect the incident areas by the used of cameras.

What I learned?

MMDA is currently using Multiplex as its software and Fortran as their system. The staff shared us that almost accidents happen those who are using vehicles across the busy roads. Even drivers are wearing helmet they are not 100% safe in death. In fact they showed us several major incidents. Life is just too short to think of if you are not going to take good care while you are

What I liked?

What I liked most about MMDA is that, the purpose and objective of the said company. Employees working in monitoring 24 hours, lazy and indolent employees are not allowed. In fact, the admission test for job opportunities inside the engineering technology is standard and difficult to pass the average grade. Car nap can be seen through their cameras. Indeed, MMDA is implementing advanced technology in their cameras which can zoom in and clearly caught the every detail of accident. I like their intention and objective quick response to the accident in a specific place. Even car nap can be monitor but not to the point that the cameras can’t spot the plaque.

What I didn’t like?

Some technical terms introduced to us by some staff are not familiar to us. Some are unusual. High technological equipments are constructing and built in privately. MMDA is making records all the monitoring for the every second they monitored. That’s definitely tough!

Fourth Day-October 7, 2010

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, I went on a company visit to

PLDT Mandaluyong City. PLDT stands for Philippine Long Distance Telecommunication. They are glad to us visiting their company. They are hospitable though they are busy in obvious at that moment.

What I learned?

We learned there three principal groups of their company. It is the Fix line, wireless and data. They also shared the meaning of Innolab it means Innovation Laboratory and Telecommunication. They tour us to their History Hall Way. However they tour us in their small data center. The elements of telecommunication link are sender, transmission medium and receiver. Under the sender or receiver, voice equipment and data equipment are the other variety. Did you know that telephone starts due to communication crisis? Another trivia is that the first commercial telephone in January 28, 1878 was exchange designed by George W. Coy. There are so many things the speaker shares into us.

What I liked?

The speaker engaged us to finish our studies and pursue our journey. In spite of competitions of skills, we the IC students will make wise in using our knowledge and learning for future consumption.

What I didn’t like?

In connection to the company which is PLDT I haven’t remember what those things I didn’t like. There are just several discussions which we are not able to coop up due to higher technological term uses. But I guess sooner we will be able to be aware and acquainted those matters.

Third Day-October 6, 2010

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, I went on a company visit to

Advance Science and Technologies Institute (ASTI) DOST. This was located at the boundary of UP Diliman.

What I learned?

The ASTI have two groups these are the “Embedded Technologies” and “Bayanihan Linux”. The embedded introduce their projects and technologies that they made. Also they offer affordable and customable solutions, services and products that suits the needs of its customer. The technologies they have was GSM Data Terminal, PicMe Microcontroller Starter Kit, GSM/GPRS Data Acquisition Terminal, Digital Wood Mositure Meter (DWMM) and Digital Multi Meter. They also have ongoing projects. These are ICT for the Environment Program, Early Warning System for Tsunami, Solar Powered Version, AC Powered Version, PREDICT and Field Monitoring System.

The second group was the Bayanihan Linux. They have many achievements about their operating system called Bayanihan Linux. They have develop from version one to version five. The objective of their group was to provide alternative low-cost but effective desktop solution for use by the government. Their operating system was free and open source software (FOSS). The benefits of FOSS was cost effective , worldwide support and collaboration and customized and distributed.

What I liked?

ASTI fulfills us new technologies. In addition, they make me inspired to have my invention too.

What I didn’t like?

When we arrive in their company they don’t entertain us. They are not ready and other batch was waiting when we are inside.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, I went on a company visit to

Telecoms Training Institute located in Valenzuela. The buildings are old. The structure is also old in style. They have the radio laboratories which are not functioning but still it preserved and maintained its structure. We haven’t seen any trainee within the institution.

What I learned?

We learned technical terms during the time we visit Telecom. Two spoke persons impart and inculcate us the equipments, uses of those laboratories and give discussion to those machineries. SHF master station used to transmit information in distant places, clearing the signals and data to be transmitted. It has more than 50 km in capacity. UHF remote station has more than distance capacity around 600 km. In fact PLDT is using the UHF remote station because it is wired and connection oriented. They also introduce us the carrier wing laboratory with 19,000 sq meter land area. Still they talked about those things. Repeater is constructing below the ground with 1 to 3 kilometers in distance.

What I liked?

Since I am closely related to technologies because I studied short technical training last year, I appreciate their service in maintaining those equipments in spite of its old structure. We also enjoined the picture taking with the equipments and radio laboratory. I like the purpose of the institution, the knowledge they are partaking and the availability of employment they are taking part. The trainer is capable enough because of their higher experiences and expertise they had gain.

What I didn’t like?

I just noticed that the establishment doesn’t have people around except us. Telecom seems like quite place to visit. I guess their operational training is temporary stop because of our presence.
