Second Day-October 5, 2010
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, I went on a company visit to

University of the Philippines but it is a school visit not company visit. The first thing we did in the UP Diliman is to have seminar. This seminar held at the NISMED Auditorium, UP Diliman. I so excited that time because one of the known school is UP and we are now reaching that school. They prepared as many five speakers. Not that simple speakers but the big one. All of those speaker consume the half day seminar we have and very fulfilling on my part as a information technology student.

What I learned?

We learned a lot from UP Diliman they introduce their six speakers. The speakers’ profile: Prof. Lemuel Rodolfo BraƱa, Ms. Rose Ann Sale, John Boaz Lee, Michelle Moscatel, Prof. Carlos Bott and last but not the list Dr. Ferdinand Pitagan. They teach us some techniques and they story their life experience in UP Diliman. From the speaker Ms. Rose Ann Sale, she gives us an overview to write a winning thesis. Few minutes, she shared to us the five stages how to bring it on a thesis. These are the “The Thinking stage”, “The Proposal Stage”, “Burning your Eye Brow Stage”, “The Nerve Wracking Stage” and finally the “I did It Stage”. We have to list those ideas that come up in your mind. In the second stage, this juncture you have to choose which among the ideas is best and preeminent of all. Add in the list all the things that would motivate us. The third stage this is the time of working and performing your thesis. You must to know your partner and group mates are also important. The adviser really helps in criticizing and evaluating our work. The forth level this is a stage for searching criteria. We might feel troubled and tense at this time. The last stage is for the accomplishments we had. Two thumbs up for the success!

After Ms. Sale the second speaker follow afterward his named Mr. John Boaz Lee. Mr. Lee shared us the significance of visualization. It is a way we think. The ITTC has its goal in helping to build a solid IT career, in producing an elite group of IT engineers with high level required IT engineers.
Ms. Len de Gracia was the next speaker. Ms. Gracia was under in the gaming industry. She is definitely an interface designer and environment artist. She always says “Forget about grades!” Because that grades is not important to get a job. It’s all about the quality of the portfolio. It’s all about marketability. It’s all about gearing self towards that dream job.
Next was Prof. Carlos Bott. The mobile application game development was his topic. Software Tools as a middle ware consist of director and Shakewave 2, Platform, Languages and Game Applications. He emphasized that courage and determination driven one self.

What I liked?

The raising up and encourage that they always remind us, finish our study first and apply those learning’s and knowledge sooner. That’s what thing that inspired me most! That every sacrifices, pressure and even failures we had in our studies, they are built and steps to create our characteristics for the better.

What I didn’t like?

During the seminar inside their Auditorium, the low temperature really disturbed our senses! We always go back in and out in the comfortable room. Inside from the cold place, less of water supply during the lunch break is our major problem. Can you imagine eating your lunch without any plain water? In fact juice is the substitution of water.

Today, I went on a company visit to

International Business Machine IBM. It is located at Ayala Techno Hub in Commonwealth Quezon City. It is also the land property of UP.

What I learned?

The speaker introduces the history of IBM Company. This speaker was graduated in UP Diliman. Her name is Ms. Iris Chui. Now the IBM converted to software industry one of the reason why they shift into software industry because there are many companies have selling hardware. They main goal as of now is to develop some software like the Trivoli Software, Lotus Software and many software bounded to their company. IBM also has a room for new developer. Their data center was open to their new developer. They allow them to use their data center. Lenovo bought all the name of the hardware of IBM. Now they are partner in marketing. The IBM in software and Lenovo were in Hardware.

What I like?

They offer a free use of their data center to those who have no facilities to use to their program or software them developing. They want that the small company or small business boom the same as the IBM Company. I liked the positive in site of their company towards their small competitive.

What I didn’t like?

They don’t tour us in there building maybe they have something secrets. in addition we have a short time in the IBM.

SEAC on NASDAQ since 1996 around $ 201.7 M in revenue, $37.6M in cash no debt with 1,200 employees primarily in R&D and service.

What I like?

SEACHANGE started with two foreigner employee and now they establish and develop a large company then it is an international company. They have a short expanded time to have a large company like SEACHANGE. Two thumbs up to their company.
